Why This Matters
Many rural communities continue to face growing challenges related to healthcare access, community isolation, population decline, workforce shortages, newcomer retention, and underutilized community assets.
Settlement Horizon was created to support stronger and more resilient rural communities through wellness, inclusion, participation, newcomer retention, and collaborative approaches to long-term community vitality.
We believe resilient communities are built when people have opportunities to belong, participate, contribute, and build their future locally through connection, collaboration, inclusion, and shared community leadership.
Our Community Resilience Approach
Settlement Horizon believes that long-term rural resilience is strengthened when people are able to:
Integrate → Participate → Contribute → Stay
- Integration: People feel welcomed, connected, and included in community life.
- Retention: People choose to remain and build their future locally.
- Economic Participation: People access employment, entrepreneurship, farming opportunities, local services, and community economic activities
- Community Assets: Underutilized land, properties, local knowledge, community resources, and local opportunities become more active and productive.
- Community Vitality: Communities experience stronger participation, wellbeing, resilience, and sustainable growth.
